April News Letter 2017
Dear Parent/Carer, as another term draws to a close I am writing to you to update you on key events that have happened and about expectations for after the Easter holidays.
I am really pleased to announce that one of students, Lashawn Chisholm, has returned to mainstream school on a full time basis and we hope that another student will follow in the next term. Whilst mainstream isn’t the appropriate placement for all our students it is a major achievement for those students who do wish to return there.
Another good news story is five of our students obtaining A or A* in their GCSE ICT exam. After the Easter holidays the other GCSE exams start in earnest and we wish all our Year 11s every success. We have also been working with them closely to ensure that they have a college placement or apprenticeship once they leave Belmont Park.
I would like to thank parents and carers for their ongoing support with school uniform. After Easter, hoodies and caps or hats should not be worn to school and outdoor coats or jackets should be removed once students enter the school building. They will be kept in a secure room and returned at the end of the day.
I would like to thank all of our staff for their hard work and dedication this year. I have seen a real increase in expectations about what our students are able to achieve and you can see real improvements in the work produced in students’ books. Students are now stopping me and asking me to look at or read pieces of work that they are really proud of, which is really encouraging to see. Students are talking about us being a real school! I know that homework is being set but if you feel that your child needs more, please do not hesitate to contact us. I am looking to develop our curriculum offer further next year and we are hoping for some additional facilities to deliver these. I will keep you updated about progress on this.
I would like to take this opportunity to wish Theo all the very best as he leaves us after eight years to return to South Africa. We thank him for all he has done for the students at Belmont Park and wish him every success and happiness in his new life.
Finally, we wish you all a peaceful and relaxing Easter break and a reminder that we return on Wednesday 19 April at 8.45am.
