Easter 2018 - Newsletter
I am really pleased to be writing to you again after what has been a really good term at Belmont Park. The Autumn term was a difficult one at times as the new structures we introduced took a while to settle in. Behaviour was not positive as it had been previously and as a result exclusions increased quite significantly. The staff worked hard to look at the reasons why and we worked closely together and with our students to look at what we could do to improve the situation.
The time that that we spent on self-reflection and teamwork has paid real dividends this term. Student attendance is now at its highest ever, our exclusions have drastically reduced, and behaviour has been much improved. This was reflected in our end of term assembly when we gave out more certificates than we have ever done before and every student received one. I was particularly pleased to see many of our new students receive awards, but the students I was proudest of were not necessarily the brightest or best attenders, but those students who have made the most improvements over the past two terms. It shows our students can take responsibility for their behaviour and they can turn things around. It makes our job worthwhile.
Alongside the business of educating our students we continue to host many different visitors to the school who want to see the work that we do. Alongside these visitors are architects, surveyors, noise experts to name just a few who are preparing the school for the new build. Belmont Park feels like a very busy place at the moment and an exciting place to be at. Next term the building work will finally begin and I believe that on completion it will further add to the continuing improvement of the school.
As you know working with our young people can be a real challenge at times, and sometimes I think we all feel at a loss as to what to do next to try and make a difference. We were thinking that it could benefit us and parents/carers to hold sessions at the school where we, with other professionals, can discuss the challenges we all face with our students and how we could work together to try and address these. If you are interested please contact the school by email email@example.com or phone and speak to myself or our SENCO Candice. In terms of working with parents/carers can I again remind you that we welcome parent/carers to join our governing body and again if you are interested please contact me. I have also been asked to remind you that copies of all of our policies are available on our website.
Finally I would like to wish much happiness to Helen our Art teacher for the past 18 months who his moving to Norway to start a new life. She has worked incredibly hard during her time here and has helped our students produce some stunning art work. Thank you for all you have done.
I would also like to wish you all a peaceful Easter. Stay safe and look after yourselves and each other.
School re-opens on Tuesday 17th April 2018.
