Belmont Park’s Therapeutic Offer
Belmont Park School believe in a child-centred approach and this is what the therapeutic offer is based upon. Each student is reviewed by a Multi-Disciplinary team and a tailored therapeutic offer is created in regards to their EHC and current SEMH needs.
Within the Therapy Team there are a variety of therapy options:
Integrative Child Therapy:
Integrative Therapy uses a variety of therapy approaches to create a personalised therapeutic plan for the young person. The approaches can consist but are not limited to:
Play therapy
CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy)
Psychodynamic
Humanistic Therapy
This allows for a personalised plan to meet the child where they are at and tailor the therapy to their needs and experiences.
Every child is different and this style of therapy recognises that one fit is not best. At Belmont Park this service is offered as a block of 12 sessions on a 1:1 basis during the term and reviewed every six weeks. There are also allocated drop in sessions for students who are not on timetable.
Systemic Counselling:
Systemic therapy a type of therapy that views problems within the context of relationships, focusing on patterns of interaction in a "system" (like a family, couple, or class group) rather than just an individual's isolated symptoms.
In this therapy there may be sessions with parents and students together to help build stronger understanding in the families we work with. In turn this can create better communication between the student and their families as well as therapy offered to parents as additional support. This also includes group sessions with students that focus on themes such as friendship and emotions.
At Belmont Park this intervention may take place on site, via phone sessions or in some cases outside of the school building.
THRIVE:
Thrive practitioners are trained to use evidence-based strategies to support emotional development. Thrive is based on an emotional development model and on the premise that synapses in the brain can be rewired. Trauma can mean that emotional development is interrupted and so the brain does not develop connections for neurotypical emotional development. Thrive uses strategies to identify gaps in emotional development and support to revive connections and plug the gaps. This service is also offered during school time for a period of 12 weeks.
Speech and Language Therapy:
Speech and Language therapy is a form of therapy that focuses on the students difficulties in communication, this includes:
Language Understanding
Listening skills
Use of speech and vocabulary
A Speech and Language therapist uses personalised tools, exercises and plans in sessions and for the student to use outside of sessions to improve areas where the student is struggling. The Speech and Language Therapist also completes assessments that state strategies to be implemented in class so that each student can have the most impactful learning experience.
Inclusion Manager:
The Inclusion Manager works with student in regards to emotional awareness, emotional regulation, self-esteem and resilience, social and friendship skills, loss, bereavement and family break-ups. Inclusion Manager is all the key point of contact for the students during their school day.
Belmont Park School’s tailored therapeutic plans are created and reviewed bi-weekly in a Multi-Disciplinary Team setting.
